Experience in Oil Refinery - RFCC Unit is a MUST!
Primary Purpose of the Job
To manage, monitors and controls RFCC unit performance including with respect to energy conservation, catalyst life and performance, product yield and chemical usages to achieve best economic and cost-effective results.
Principal Accountabilities
- Monitors daily performance summaries prepared by Process Engineers from information received from Productions, Laboratory and Production Planning Divisions. Discusses irregularities with Productions Department and provide advice. Ensures that daily, weekly and monthly reports are prepared with appropriate trends to track the performance of all process and units under his responsibility. Uses computer techniques for data management and presentation.
- Identifies problem areas on the process proposes cost effective and safe solutions. Checks similar proposals by Sr. process engineers. Ensures that all equipment performance is routinely monitored including heat exchangers, heaters, columns and reactors. Recommends appropriate action to Productions Department when problem is detected.
- Checks and endorses operating procedures and standing instructions. Arranges revisions of these at regular intervals. Arranges the execution or test runs on plants and processes to establish optimum parameters and identify potential problems. Ensures the preparation of reports.
- Approve technical specifications and technical bids review made by Senior Engineer for procurement of chemicals and catalysts. Approve performance index for the utilities and chemical consumption, monitors their trends and gives advice to keep at optimum level.
- Identifies the plants bottlenecks and carries out studies for modifications to debottleneck and upgrade the existing plants involving plant capacity, yield and energy improvements.
- Checks all recommendations for process improvements as suggested by Sr. process engineers leading to detailed process design modifications. Ensures that all process design work is in line with sound engineering and safety principles. Check and economic evaluation of such proposals. Screens documentation related to new projects or unit expansion.
- Reviews existing technology and keeps abreast of new developments. Evaluates new technology to determine suitability, specification and values of products, energy usage and related economic factors. Includes initiation of pre-feasibility studies both to replace existing facilities, expand them or install new developments.
- Ensure the application of all modern tools, especially computer based, to trouble shoot and achieve optimum performance. Includes the use of simulation models and personal computers.
- Leads the teams of Senior Process Engineers in providing comments on Process flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping & Instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) and other design documents which are issued by Licensors. Assists in the planning, commissioning, start up and handover of new projects and equipment. Evaluates performance and prepares appropriate reports for management. Carries out the similar or related duties, as assigned. Includes participating in HAZAN and HAZOP studies on plant modifications to identify potential problems and coordinate optimal solution, participating in safety surveys and audits of plant and equipment, ensuring the observance of all safety and fire rules and regulations, assisting in the preparation of sectional budgets, etc. Participates with computer support unit in various matters related to process control strategies, system analysis and modifications.
- Assists in preparing training programmes for National employees undergoing on-the-job training by identifying specific training needs. Provides training, guidance and counselling to trainees, developees and other subordinates with a clear objective of career development
Decision Making Authority
- Provide work direction to Process Engineers
- Reports to Asst. Manager, Technical Services. Works in accordance with established Company policies, procedures and specialised professional engineering standards. Work is subject to general review and direction.
- Demonstrated ability to work from a position of credible influence based on process knowledge versus a position of authority.
- Self-motivated and capable of exercising sound judgment.
Context / Special Features / Challenges
- Excellent knowledge on process units is prime requirement. Good understanding on trouble shooting techniques is must. Good analytical skills, data interpretation techniques, in depth technical knowledge are must. Should be capable of using simulation techniques for problem solving.
- Regular contacts with personnel, up to Section Head level, in Operations, Production Planning, Laboratory, Development Engineering and Inspection for discussion, coordination and problem solving of related matters. Liaises with senior staff at other operating centres and headquarters. Regular contact with Projects Directorate for follow-up and coordination of new Projects, Regular contacts with vendors, process licensors, representatives of engineering companies and other external sources or technical assistance for discussing various matters related to process engineering in the plant.
- Minimal. Some walking, standing and occasionally climbing when on physical observance of process units for 30% of work time. Exposed to eye strain due to computer operation for 20% of the work time.
- Normally air-conditioned environment. Slight exposure to prevailing weather conditions, and exposure to dirt, grease, gases and chemicals when on-site for 30% of the work time.
Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills / Experience
- BSc in Chemical Engineering or in Petroleum Processing Engineering.
- Minimum 15 years hands-on experience in process/operations in Refinery.
- Fluent in spoken and written English language. Good personal & oral communication skills.
- Proficient in Process simulation tools in Refinery.
- Professional usage of Refinery Information System (RIS), Process Historian Data (PHD), Laboratory information system, SAP, off-site Automation software’s applications and PC software, such as, Microsoft Project, Excel, Graphics/Presentation packages, Workflow charting etc.
- Clear understanding of ISO 9001:2015, ISO17025 and ISO 14000 requirements and proficient in aspects of continuous quality.
- Great knowledge of integrated management system (IMS) requirements.
- Good comprehension of applicable International Standards in Refinery.
- Great skills in Refinery economics business.
- Presentation and communication skills, ability to draft effective written technical documents.
